Controlling Their Own Destiny

Published by mike_pallas at 12:00 am under BCS Edit This

Two teams in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision control their own destiny for the National Championship game, Alabama and Texas Tech. If they win out, including playing their conference championship games, they will play each other for the national championship. If not the flood gates will open, especially if they both lose.

If Texas Tech loses to Oklahoma next week then Texas should represent the Big 12 South against Missouri in the title game. Alabama has already qualified for the Southeastern Conference Championship game against Florida. They have back-to-back big games in the next two weeks: this week against Mississippi State in a payback game and next week in an interstate rivalry game against Auburn. The winner of the SEC Title game should be in the National Championship game.

As for Texas Tech, they need to defeat Oklahoma next week to stay in the National Title hunt. If they win next week they will clinch the Big 12 South and advance to the Big 12 Title game against Missouri.

The Beavers of Oregon State also control their own destiny for a spot in the Rose Bowl. Because of their victory over Southern California they control their BCS destiny. Southern California will be scoreboard watching for the next two weeks. If Oregon State wins out they go to the Rose Bowl and keep Southern California out of the National Championship game.
